5 Epic Stars for Nav'Aria

The minute I saw a unicorn on the cover of this book, I knew that I was going to love it. Call it a hunch!

I was a big lover of unicorns as a young girl and their majestic beauty and allure seemed to stay with me into adulthood.

Oh, Nav’Aria: The Marked Heir… What wonderful things can I tell you without giving too much away? This is the dilemma I faced while writing this book review.

First off! Go buy your copy before you read any further because this is one book you don’t want to miss out on! Ok? Good!
Now that you’re back:

Darion Smith seems to be your typical teenage boy growing up in Oregon who has to face normal teenage issues (bullying, girl crushes, not fitting in, etc.) but Darion is anything but “normal” and soon starts to see how different he really is. Born with an unusual birthmark that seems to be growing and continually having frighteningly real dreams, he is soon faced with an undeniable fate and is literally propelled into another world.

Enter Nav’Aria- a fantasy lover’s dream come true, where unicorns are bad-a$$ warriors that are both beautiful and deadly creatures, centaurs roam and the land is in war and turmoil at the hands of the evil, Narco, who has treasonously corrupted this beautiful and peaceful place with dark magic.

You’ll meet a slew of characters, a lineage of unicorns that will leave you speechless, and a magnificent king who is the very definition of regal. And you’ll be thrown into the non-stop action that is taking place as Darion finds his true identity and must join in the battle to save the kingdom.

This book had it all- mythical creatures, history, action, drama and some laughs too. KJ Backer weaves an amazingly eloquent tale with multiple POVs and back stories. Such character development and suspense that had me unable to stop reading. This was a true page turner!

With elements of Narnia and Legend as well as an originality that will utterly thrill you, this fantasy novel is a must read and I absolutely LOVED it! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

4 Stars for Coming Home- A cute and cozy romance read

This was a sweet and pleasant book from the POV of a relatable female character, Rayanne, and her quest to come back to her hometown after her parents give her the startling news that they are selling her childhood home. Upon buying it, she settles back home and meets up with her old best friend, Colby, who just so happens to now be a hunky architect eager to catch up with her. Rayanne's the only one among her peers who's oblivious to Colby's feelings for her, ones he's had all along we realize deep into the story; she even tries to get back together with her ex (who's a total jerk by the way!) but finally starts to see that she needs to open her eyes a bit before the characters get together in the end. This was a short, sweet, nostalgic read that makes the reader cozy as they "come home."

Review of Blood Drops by WB Welch

5 Stars for Blood Drops

This collection of gripping horror stories pulled me in from the first story and had we wanting more in the end. The tales were dark, disturbing and beautifully depicted. WB writes with a poet's soul as she weaves story after story of profound suspense, heart-pounding thrills, and sheer terror. She made me feel like I was there with each one of them, taking me into the mind of a killer, into the heart of an addict and into the room with Death.

She writes stories that call to our deepest nightmares, bringing them to life, touching on controversial and and taboo topics, and giving you a glimpse into the shadows of disturbed minds. I give this book 5 stars as both a lover of horror and a writer, I think it was brilliantly put together. If you enjoy scary tales that will thrill, chill and disturb you, this one is for you!

Review of Pandora by Joshua Grant

When I first read the blurb for Pandora, I knew that it was going to be the ideal read for me. I’m a huge fan of all things that go bump in the night and Josh Grant doesn’t disappoint! This tale had elements of the movies, The Thing, Event Horizon AND the video game Dead Space.

Set aboard a decimated cruise ship, the reader is automatically plunged into a heart-pounding thrill ride within the first few pages and simply reading the prologue, I was immediately drawn in and knew I would be up late reading this one!

I enjoyed the plot, the characters, the action, the conspiracy and even the sharp twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting.

There are many character POVs, which I personally enjoy as a reader, but for the most part Josh puts you in Dr. Aubrey Pittenger and Julian Eduardo’s perspectives as they literally battle an ungodly evil, Watcher, in the run for their lives. I thought it was unique and interesting to be inside Watcher’s mind too, and it gave the story a distinctive element. Josh did a great job building the scenes, I literally felt like I was there, as he was very descriptive in his details aboard the damaged, Emerald Rose. I loved the suspense and the action that had me on edge through the whole book. I enjoyed the references to shows and movies, the humor and the history behind the existence of Watcher. I found it fascinated that Josh weaved such an elaborate tale. I was also pleased by the romance that developed, but not surprised, and I thought it added a great element to the story and character development. Gabe was well portrayed too and Mac. It was funny and creepy and I loved it!

I give this book 5 stars as it hit on every aspect of a great horror story in my opinion. It had suspense, drama, horror and loads of action. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
